Come July 8, Fort Street from Outer Drive to Sibley Road will become "the place to be for cruisers" with the inaugural Cruisin’ Downriver.
But, before this area-wide event takes place, The News-Herald Newspapers will publish a special commemorative Cruisin’ Downriver supplement June 28, and that’s where you, our readers, come in.
Fort Street has been the cruisin’ place to be for many people over the years, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. We want to hear your stories and include some of them in this commemorative section.
Fort Street holds a lot of memories.
It may be that you recall lazy summer evenings at Bob Jo’s Frozen Custard stand, or that first date with your spouse-to-be at the Fort-George Drive-in, or maybe you remember the car hops at Frisco’s or maybe even that first visit as a kid to the Wonderland amusement park.
Send stories and photos, if possible, of your cruisin’ days down Fort Street to "Cruisin’ Memories," Heritage Newspapers, One Heritage Place, Southgate, MI 48195, or call Business Editor Gary Gosselin Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons at 1-734-246-0861.
