Cruisin’ Downriver: Cruise Kick-Off Party will feature classic
convertible Mustang showBy Kristyn Marshall
SOUTHGATE — A classic car show featuring convertible Ford Mustangs
from each decade will be the main feature at the second annual Cruisin’
Downriver Kick-Off Party to be held 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Crystal
Gardens.
This marks the second year that the Southern Wayne County Regional
Chamber is teaming up with AutoAlliance International, Crystal Gardens
and the News-Herald Newspapers to co-host a fun and exciting party to
gear-up for the sixth annual Cruisin’ Downriver, which takes place 10
a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
This year’s kickoff celebration will feature a beach party theme with
picnic food, adult beverages, music and many valuable prizes.
A number of auto-related vendors and chamber member businesses will
be exhibiting their products and services at the event as well.
Several hundred people are expected to attend, including local, state
and federal elected officials, business leaders and this year’s cruise
sponsors. Casual attire is welcome.
More than 20 vehicles will be on display at the classic car show.
Staci Washington, AAI public affairs, said convertible Mustangs dating
back from the 1960s to present time — as well as some other Ford
vehicles — will be featured.
“We plan on having several cars displayed both indoors and outdoors
for guests to explore and enjoy,” Washington said. “In addition to our
classic models, we will have the 2005 convertible Mustang in screaming
yellow that serves as this year’s official Cruisin’ Downriver logo and a
Ford GT vehicle on display.”
Washington said AAI also will be giving out Mustang and Mazda 6 key
chains and 2005 Cruisin' Downriver dash plaques to everyone in
attendance. This year’s official Cruisin’ Downriver T-shirts will be
available for purchase at the event for only $15.
AAI is the title sponsor of this year’s cruise. Other sponsors
include Capers Tavern and Eatery, Crystal Gardens Banquet Center,
