CRUISIN’ 4 A CAUSE SET FOR LINCOLN PARK

LINCOLN PARK — Every event as large as Cruisin’ Downriver needs a kick off event.

For the last four years, that event has been Cruisin’ 4 A Cause.

This year’s fifth annual event will be held June 21.

“Last year we had approximately 200 attend the event and raised $8,000,” said event chairperson Linda Kaiser. “Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 dollars.”

Half of the proceeds from this year’s event will go to the Penrickton Center for Blind Children; the other half to the Lincoln Park Economic Development.

The Penrickton Center is located in Taylor and is a private, non-profit five-day residential and day care agency serving blind children from 1-12 with at least one additional handicap such as deafness, cerebral palsy, brain damage, and development delay.

The Penrickton Center is truly a unique program. It does not receive any state, federal, United Way or insurance money. More importantly, no fees are ever charged to families. Penrickton Center relies solely on private financial support from individuals, service clubs, corporations and foundations.

“Penrickton Center is thrilled to be part of the fifth annual ‘Crusin 4 A Cause,’” said Kurt Sebaly, executive director of the Penrickton Center. “The Downriver cruise is for everybody and so is the ‘Cruisin’ 4 A Cause’ event. This charity event kicks off the Downriver Cruise.”

This year’s event is a black tie optional affair with after 5 attire required. It will take pace from 7 to 11 p.m. on June 21 at the Robert H. Jones Knights of Columbus located at 25160 West Outer Drive in Lincoln Park. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with a Taste Fest running from 7 to 9 p.m. and entertainment from 7 to 11 p.m.

The Taste Fest will include such eateries as Applebee’s, Catering by Kellie, Cioccio’s Catering, Chesley’s Bar & Grille, Carlson Catering Co., Grosse Isle Golf & Country Club, The Rhapsody, Tim Hortons, Two Irish Chefs, Catering, Sweet Nothings, Jeanne’s Catering, Carabba’s Italian Grill, Sharkey’s River Front Tavern, Mary’s Chocolate Factory, Buffalo Wild Wings, Outback Steak House and Budweiser with others expected to sign on.

The event will include auctions, raffles and door prizes. Some of the prizes and auction items include a gas-powered mini chopper, use of a Las Vegas condo for one week, a chest freezer, a private 90-minute private plane ride, a golf package for two, a U.S. flag that was flown over the Capitol, the ability to spend an hour with the WNIC-FM Breakfast Club and much more.

Sponsors of this year’s event include, The Rhapsody, Pangborn Design, Jeffery’s Photography, Gary’s Printing, Cad Visions, Second Step Advertising, The American Legion, Concord Ambulance, Toshiba Business Solutions, Bambi’s Flowers, Highlite Printers along with Sharkey’s River Front Tavern.

Cost for the event is $50 per ticket, which includes an open bar. For more information, call 1-734-341-1078 or go to www.cruisin4-acause.org.
